Democratic Party moves mayoral town hall to larger venue
April 18th event will now be held at Walb Student Union ballroom at Purdue Fort Wayne
Moments ago, the Allen County Democratic Party announced it was changing the venue of their mayoral candidate town hall forum this Thursday, April 18.
Originally scheduled for a park pavilion that only holds 150 people, it will now happen in the Classic Ballroom at Walb Memorial Union on the campus of Purdue Fort Wayne, which has a capacity of up to 350. The event is scheduled to start at 6PM and last two hours.
Last Monday, I reported that several precinct chairs were worried the original venue was not large enough to hold all the people who would want to attend the event. After that story was published, Allen County Democratic Party executive director Chad Wierzbinksi told me they had “heard the concerns about space size and have been exploring potential alternatives.”
The new location means there will be room for all 98 precinct chairs, the candidates and their teams, members of the media, and the public. According to a release announcing new details of the event, some seats will be reserved for precinct chairs.
The Allen County Democratic Party will videotape the town hall and send it to all the precinct chairs. This recording will not be made available to the public, according to Allen County Democratic Party communications director Conner Klotz.
It's disappointing that the videotaped town hall will not be available to the public.
